G20 Health Working Group Meeting
We are honored to have participated in the inaugural G20 Health Working Group (HWG) meeting under South Africa’s G20 Presidency on January 24, 2025. This virtual assembly convened G20 member states, invited nations, and international organizations to deliberate on pressing global health priorities.
The HWG’s agenda encompasses five key priorities:
- Accelerating Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through a Primary Health Care (PHC)
- Strengthening human resources for health
- Stemming the tide of non-communicable diseases (NCDs)
- Pandemic Prevention Preparedness and Response (PPPR)
- Science and innovation for health and economic growth
Our engagement in this forum underscores our unwavering commitment to combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through international collaboration and innovation. We are particularly encouraged by the continued emphasis on AMR within the G20 agenda, reflecting a global acknowledgment of the urgent need to address this escalating threat.
Building upon the momentum from previous G20 engagements, such as our participation in the Health Working Group & Ministerial Meetings during Brazil and India’s G20 presidencies, we remain dedicated to fostering cross-sector collaboration and driving forward the global AMR research and development agenda.
We extend our gratitude to South Africa’s Department of Health for orchestrating this pivotal meeting and to all participating nations and organizations for their collaborative spirit. Together, we can accelerate progress towards a healthier, more equitable world.
