Hamburg Sustainability Conference 2025: Advancing Global Action on AMR
The second Hamburg Sustainability Conference, held on June 2–3, 2025, brought together leaders from politics, business, science, and civil society to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Among the many pressing topics on this year’s agenda were global health and antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
On June 2, the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) and ReAct Africa Network co-hosted a high-level roundtable titled: “Scaling Solutions and Financing for Antimicrobial Resistance Mitigation.”
There, the Hub’s Director, Dr. Lesley Ogilvie, joined a panel of experts discussing how to translate global AMR commitments—including the 2024 UN Political Declaration and the Pandemic Agreement—into effective local action.
Key themes covered:
-
Integrating AMR into broader development agendas via a One Health approach
-
Exploring sustainable financing for long-term AMR mitigation
The roundtable concluded with the launch of the Hamburg Joint Statement on AMR, endorsed by global partners including Africa CDC, Gavi, JICA, and various health ministries.
We’d like to thank ICARS and ReAct Africa for convening this important event and all panelists for their contributions.
