The Future of Global Health Diplomacy in a Changing World

From the near-total cutoff of access to healthcare during wartimes to the widening gap between social status and the risk of falling ill or dying prematurely, global health is an inevitable concern among all the great challenges of our time.

The world needs diplomacy and global collaboration to navigate these turbulent times. This was the main theme of The G20 & G7 Health and Development Partnership Health20 (H20) Summit 2024, which took place on June 19-20 at the WHO Headquarters in Geneva.

Titled “The Future of Global Health Diplomacy in a Changing World,” the Summit brought together over 150 experts, politicians, and other stakeholders to discuss crucial topics, such as sustainable financing for global health and the introduction of new global health initiatives.

The Global AMR R&D Hub was honored to offer a voice at the event through the participation of Ralf Sudbrak, Deputy Director of the Hub. Ralf, along with other distinguished speakers, participated in Panel 2: G20 & G7 Legacy Initiatives – Successes and Lessons Learned from Initiatives and Taskforces Created in G20 and G7 Presidencies (2017-2024).

The panel featured:

At the event, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) was also discussed among other pressing global health challenges. Dr. Ralf Sudbrak, the Hub’s Deputy Director emphasized the need for global action against AMR, stating:

We recommend integrating AMR into other global health initiatives and any crisis-mode planning, and call for sustainable financing across the entire push and pull spectrum.

Thank you to Hatice Küçük Beton & Alan Donnelly at the G20 & G7 Health and Development Partnership for the invitation to take part.
