First Regional Meeting on AMR for the Americas and the Caribbean

From 24 to 27 March, leaders, researchers, policymakers, and technical experts from across Latin America and the Caribbean gathered in Brasília (Brazil) for the 1st Americas Regional Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

The meeting was hosted by Brazil’s Ministry of Health (Ministério da Saúde), in partnership with the Global AMR R&D Hub and other national, regional, and international organisations. It provided a space for regional dialogue and collaboration under a One Health approach, with a shared focus on accelerating action on AMR.

Discussions highlighted the importance of linking community-level action with national and regional policy. Participants explored how to strengthen partnerships and better integrate community-based approaches into AMR strategies and national action plans across the region.

At the invitation of André Abreu from Brazil’s Ministry of Health, Dr. Lesley Ogilvie joined the meeting and contributed to the discussions, bringing in perspectives from the Hub’s Dynamic Dashboard and working groups.

For the Hub, the meeting also offered an opportunity to connect with partners across the region and learn from ongoing work on the ground.
