Global AMR R&D Hub and Chinese Academy of Sciences launch strategic partnership to advance antimicrobial resistance research
New collaboration to strengthen evidence-based analysis of the global AMR R&D landscape using advanced technologies
The Global AMR R&D Hub and the Institute of Urban Environment (IUE) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) are pleased to announce a strategic collaboration to strengthen global research and development (R&D) efforts addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
The partnership brings together the Hub’s expertise in global AMR R&D coordination, data analysis, and agenda-setting with IUE-CAS’s internationally recognised strengths in One Health research, surveillance, and data integration. Together, the partners aim to advance a more comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of the global AMR R&D landscape to support improved prioritisation and coordination of investments.
A central focus of the collaboration—initiated by Prof David Graham also at Durham University —will be the application of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and sophisticated analytical tools. These approaches will enhance data integration, analytical capacity, and strategic insight generation, strengthening the global evidence base underpinning AMR R&D decision-making.
Prof. Yong-Guan Zhu, Chinese Academy of Sciences
“We are very delighted to work with the Global AMR R&D Hub to provide support on knowledge integration using artificial intelligence (AI), given the sheer volume of literature all over the world. We believe AI will improve the efficiency of mapping the current knowledge and identifying gaps for future efforts”
Dr. Lesley Ogilvie, Director, Global AMR R&D Hub
“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to strengthening the global evidence base for AMR R&D. Harnessing advanced technologies will be critical to supporting more informed, transparent, and strategic decision-making in this space”
About the Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences
The Institute of Urban Environment (IUE) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is a leading research institution specialising in urban environmental systems, with core strengths in environmental science, engineering, and ecology. Led by Professor Yong-Guan Zhu, IUE conducts internationally recognised research on antimicrobial resistance across One Health sectors, supported by laboratory research, field monitoring, and advanced data-integration and artificial intelligence tools.
