Prof. Liesl Zühlke appointed Hub’s Vice Chair
We’re proud to announce that Professor Liesl Zühlke has been appointed Vice Chair of the Global AMR R&D Hub.
A lifelong medical doctor and global health champion, Prof. Zühlke has held some of South Africa’s 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 — including President of the Paediatric Cardiac Society of South Africa and President of the South African Heart Association. She currently serves as Vice President for Extramural Research & Internal Portfolio at the South African Medical Research Council.
Representing 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚, Prof. Zühlke carries with her the realities of regions where health resources are often stretched. She reminds us that 𝐀𝐌𝐑 𝐢𝐬 “𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐰- 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞-𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬.”
Together with our Chair, Eirik Rødseth Bakka, her leadership, expertise, hard work, dedication, and big dreams will help steer our collective efforts to strengthen the global response to AMR!
We’re truly delighted to welcome Prof. Zühlke to this new role and look forward to the impact her vision and experience will bring to our shared mission.
Thank you for the warm welcome to the Global AMR R&D Hub. This is an enormous issue for low and middle-income countries, with substantially different drivers and outcomes. I thus look forward to working with you all in this crucial endeavour, supporting the Chair and fulfilling and extending the mandate of the Global AMR R&D Hub.
