Global Leaders Group on AMR: Delivering on Collective Political Action Addressing AMR

In the margins of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, there was a Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) side event on accelerating collective political action. Dr Lesley Ogilvie of the Global AMR Research and Development (R&D) Hub was present in Kigali for the side event and found it incredibly rewarding to hear from key political figures on the global stage, as working to keep AMR high on the political agenda remains vitally important. In the words of Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization:

AMR has impacts on every sector and every sector must be included in the response. We must invest in R&D for new antibiotics.
